Job Title: Extension Officer

Location: Kaduna

Job Description

  • As an Extension Officer at Pullus Africa, your primary responsibility will be to provide comprehensive extension support to poultry farmers.
  • You will play a crucial role in managing and guiding farmers, ensuring they receive the necessary information, training, and resources to enhance their poultry production.
  • By leveraging your expertise in poultry farming, production, and nutrition, you will contribute to the success of our platform by delivering valuable extension services.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular visits to farmers’ locations to provide on-site extension support and guidance.
  • Educate farmers on best practices related to poultry farming, including breeding, rearing, health management, and disease prevention.
  • Assess farmers’ existing production systems and provide recommendations for improvement, considering factors such as biosecurity, housing, feeding, and waste management.
  • Deliver training sessions and workshops to farmers on topics such as poultry nutrition, feed formulation, and feed management.
  • Collaborate with farmers to develop customized feeding programs based on their specific poultry production goals and available resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of farmers’ operations, identifying areas where additional support or intervention is required.
  • Assist the Extension Manager in designing and planning training schedules and curriculum.
  • Facilitate farmers’ access to credit or financing options for input procurement, providing guidance on loan application processes and financial management.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements and trends in poultry farming and nutrition, and share relevant information with farmers to enhance their productivity and profitability.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of farmers’ profiles, visits, training sessions, and extension services provided.

Requirements

  • First Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or a related field. A specialization in Poultry Science or Poultry Production would be an advantage.
  • Resides in Kaduna or Nassarawa
  • Prior experience working directly with poultry farmers and extensive knowledge of poultry farming practices, production systems, and nutrition.
  • Familiarity with various poultry breeds, their characteristics, and their suitability for different production purposes.
  • Strong understanding of biosecurity measures, disease prevention, and health management practices in poultry farming.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver effective training programs and workshops for farmers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with farmers and effectively convey technical information.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Willingness to travel to farmers’ locations regularly and work in rural or remote areas as needed.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, identify challenges, and provide innovative solutions to support farmers’ success.
